Danish Minister: "Shipbreaking a focus issue under the Danish EU presidency"

In Denmark, following the disclosure of Danish ships being broken in Turkey as well as Alang in India, the Danish minister for the Environment, Hans Christian Schmidt has promised to make shipbreaking a focus issue under the Danish EU presidency. On national television, Mr. Schmidt explained that everyone has a moral responsibility to do the right thing. He said that besides shipowners, also shipbrokers should play a role in changing the current practices. As a start, brokers should inform the shipowners about the situation on shipbreaking yards where the ships will be scrapped.
